Just read a few days ago about a museum called Glenstone museum in Maryland US. The museum deliberately limits number of visitors by many ways. Does’t have Facebook page, doesn’t sell tickets unlimitedly, prohibits the use of selfy stick, doesn’t have wifi inside the museum, and slow the visitor s’ flow.
There is a tendance of against-social, anti-mass attitude in doing business in some artistic areas where owners think that the over expansion and reliance on mass production and advertisement and social network can hinder the real enjoyment of art. How can we enjoy art while be more than ready to shot photos and post them instantly on Facebook and Instagram?
But of course as every tendance there are always criticisms: trying to be against the mass and the social network, are you jailed yourself in the ivory tower and kept apart from people’s joy and pain? And be the worst of elitism?
Let’s wait and see. Any tendance is worth observing. How can the museum resist in this era where every success is measured by the number of participants and “likes”.
